Advantages of Rechargeable Batteries in Pedal-Based Power Meters

About Products

Cycling , whether on the road or on the trail, is more than just a sport: it’s a demanding experience that requires precision, performance, and reliability from every component.
When it comes to choosing the right power source for your pedal-based power meter, rechargeable batteries stand out as a clear winner. They offer unrivalled and trustworthy power data reading, which directly enhance the overall riding experience.

No power dropouts for consistent performance

Rechargeable batteries offer unmatched reliability.
Unlike disposable batteries, which are prone to power dropouts* due to loose or faulty contacts, rechargeable batteries provide a stable voltage transmission, a critical factor for data accuracy.
In traditional systems, disposable batteries rely on pressure contacts, which are not physically welded to the electronic circuit. Over time, and with frequent replacements, these contacts are more likely to loosen.
Not to mention that the continuous vibrations and the potential entrance of water, dust and mud ingress through the battery compartment cover (or battery door) also translate into an increased risk of damaging the product.

In contrast, all Assioma PRO pedals are equipped with rechargeable batteries safely stored inside the spindle and welded directly to the electronic circuit. This internal configuration not only ensures secure contact and seamless power delivery, but also eliminates the need for external battery compartments.
With no covers to open or contacts to clean, external elements like water and mud are no longer a threat, and riders benefit from a more stable and uninterrupted power supply throughout every ride.
This translates into clean, continuous power data, allowing cyclists to analyse their metrics with confidence and precision.

*Power dropouts occur when you see an abrupt interruption in the data reading and the power drops down to zero. The data reading is, therefore, erratic with continuous spikes.

Convenience and accessibility

Thanks to USB charging, riders can easily recharge their power meters using a variety of devices, from wall chargers to power banks, thus eliminating the need to hunt down specific battery sizes in remote locations.

The Assioma PRO line comes with a 2-meter-long dual charging cable equipped with magnetic connectors. Once the magnetic connectors are brought close to the spindle and the pins on the spindle are correctly aligned with the corresponding slots on the magnetic connectors, the two will effortlessly snap together.
This magnetic charging system makes recharging intuitive, secure, and hassle-free, allowing riders to focus on performance, not battery management.

Duration

The Assioma PRO pedals ensure at least 60 hours of runtime on a single charge, ensuring you’re covered on all your rides, whether it’s a weekend adventure or a multi-day event.
Each battery is individually tested in-house by Favero Electronics before being integrated into the product, ensuring top-tier durability and quality control.
Engineered for professional-level applications, the battery maintains excellent performance over time: after 500 full charge cycles (i.e. from 0% to 100% battery charge), it still retains over 80% of its original capacity, which equates to more than 25,000 hours of riding!
